Troubleshooting Tips

The tips below are provided in an effort to assist you in troubleshooting any problems you’re having with your service. If your problem is not addressed here, please contact your service provider for further assistance.

What do I do if I’m unable to get online?

First, unplug your wireless device, and then plug it back in. Sometimes lock ups do happen, and restarting the device allows information to flow back through.

What is TCP/IP?

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is a group of protocols used to connect hosts.

How do I know what version of Internet Explorer that I have?

   Open Internet Explorer
   Click on Help
   Click on About Internet Explorer

How do I change my opening start page?

In Internet Explorer-
   Go to Tools
   Click on Internet Options
   Click on the General Tab
   Under Home Page, highlight what is in the box and delete it
   Type in the address you want as your home page
   Click Apply
   Click OK

In Netscape-
   Go to Edit
   Click on Preferences
   Under Home Page, highlight what is in the box and delete it
   Type in the address you want as your home page
   Click OK

I try to access a Web page and it times out.

The actual site may be having problems or too many people are trying to access the site.

What is FTP?

File Transfer Protocol is the protocol used to send files on the Internet.

How do I forward a message?

In Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger-
   Open the message you want to forward
   Click forward at the top of the message
   Enter the address to send to
   Send message

How do I reply to a message?

In Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger-
   Open the message you want to reply to
   Click reply at the top of the message
   Enter the address to send to
   Send message

How do I send e-mail using my address book?

In Outlook Express-
   Click on New Mail at the top of the screen
   Click on the book to the left of To:
   Click on the name you want
   Click To:
   Click OK
   Type message and send

In Netscape Messenger-
   Click New Msg
   Click on Address at top of screen
   Click on the name you want
   Click To:
   Click OK
   Type message and send

What is an attachment?

A file sent along with an e-mail for you to view.

How do I view attachments?

Double click on the message. Then double click on the attachment to open it.

Why can't I read an attachment?

There could be 2 reasons:

   a) The sender attached a blank attachment.

   b) You may not have the proper program. Some attachments require certain programs to view them. If you don't have the correct program, the attachment may not be viewable.

Can we e-mail others who are not on Datz?

Yes, you can e-mail anyone in the world who has an e-mail address.
